The good, the bad, and the Bakers….

Reichenbach-Steegen

What a whirlwind the last few months have been. The Lord has moved mountains, and whispered quiet assurances. In the last ten weeks :

  • We listed our house on the market—which sold in just six weeks.
  • At the end of April, Steve and our sweet dog Pippa made the move to Germany and found us a new home.
  • Isabella wrapped up her freshman year at DBU and moved her belongings into an apartment, ready for her return in the fall.
  • Charlotte and I finished our final year at Abilene Classical Academy, saying goodbye to a school that has been a cherished part of our lives for the past three years.
  • Jack completed his sophomore year at Jim Ned, marking the end of the Baker era at Jim Ned CISD.
  • We gave away most of our furniture and had movers pack the rest for the long journey to our new home.
  • We sold one car, gave away another, and stored a third.
  • We also said farewell to our church family—an incredible body of believers that truly reflects what the Lord intends His church to be.
  • Over Memorial Day weekend, the kids and I traveled to Indiana to spend time with my parents, navigating an overnight road trip in an electric car—an adventure in itself. One day I will be able to laugh about it.
  • And through it all—including a not-so-smooth house closing—God has shown us that He is in control of all things, working in ways we couldn’t have orchestrated ourselves.

As a dear friend texted me, “In every situation, God is always doing a thousand different things that you cannot see and you do not know.” – John Piper.

Steve has already begun settling into our new village of Reichenbach-Steegen in Germany. He’s met several of our neighbors—many of whom love stopping by to say hello and pet Pippa. It’s been such a sweet reminder that community can form quickly, even across cultures and language barriers.

And now, in just a few days, we’ll all be together again, reunited as a family and ready to begin this next chapter. Our hearts are set on one goal: to glorify Christ in all of life and share the Good News.

Thank you for praying with us, encouraging us, and walking this road alongside us.

We’re the Bakers!

We’re a family of five from the vast landscapes of West Texas (but say Auf Wiedersehen to our college aged daughter for the school year), setting out on an adventure to Germany. As we embrace each moment of this incredible experience, we’re sharing our experiences along the way. Join us as we navigate life getting to and in Deutschland, trusting in God’s plan for us every step of the way!

When the Adventure Hits Back: Spiritual Warfare, Washing Machines and a Wild Welcome to Germany Two weeks ago, the kids and I landed in Germany. • Radically Ordinary Hospitality

Convicting. Plain and simple. I am naturally an introvert, and the queen of excuses. Hand-in-hand, that has lead me to use my spiritual gift of hospitality incredibly sparingly with my neighbors, especially since Covid.  As we prepare for our move I have been reading Rosario Butterfield’s “The Gospel Comes with a House Key.” Currently my…

  • What are we thinking?

How did we get here…a family with a kid in college, a soon to be junior and freshman in high school, and the main breadwinner just had major brain surgery, moving to Germany (again)? This does not make sense in the typical American mind. But God… About two years ago the Lord began stirring in…
