The good, the bad, and the Bakers….

What are we thinking?

What are we thinking?

How did we get here…a family with a kid in college, a soon to be junior and freshman in high school, and the main breadwinner just had major brain surgery, moving to Germany (again)? This does not make sense in the typical American mind. But God…

About two years ago the Lord began stirring in us a sense that He had different plans for our family. We first thought it was to be part of a church plant about five minutes south of our home. That was an easy yes as we were going with a dear pastor and a great group of friends. When the Lord closed that door, and moved the Pastor to a different city, we still felt the Lord urging us to “hold things loosely.”

In the middle of all of this, we watched a video in Sunday School class from a church fellowship organization our church supports, where it was mentioned that only 2% of Germans are professing believers. We looked at each other and said we’d go back if God ever called us (as if that would ever happen, ha!).

In November, we were in a meeting when Steve “randomly” received a text from his boss asking if he would be interested in a Ramstein job. My first response, NO! I was not going to leave Isabella, and Steve has Parkinson’s disease and had not had DBS surgery yet (and wasn’t scheduled to until March or April). Steve said we should at least pray about it and meet with an elder to discuss. We did both and I made deals with the Lord (not the way things work…). His plans are always perfect!

Praise the Lord we serve a sovereign God, who loves us and our children dearly. He has made it abundantly clear during the entire process that this is His desire for our family. We LONG to serve the Lord wherever we are and share the Good News.

So, in April Steve will head to Germany while the kids and I finish out the school year and sell the house. The kids and I will then join him, including Isabella. Isabella will spend the summer with us, and then head back to the States to continue University. I will miss teaching 4th grade at ACA, but also look forward to serving my family full time. As of right now, the plan is for Jack and Charlotte to attend Liberty High School online.

Ways you can pray…

  • Steve just had major brain surgery (DBS) and is healing fabulously PTL! The device will be programmed in about a week, which is an ongoing process. Please pray for continued healing and for a smooth transition in this area.
  • For all of us to finish strong here in the States, both in school and jobs.
  • For the house to sell at the right time and for all the details
  • That we have peace in the midst of all the chaos
  • For our hearts as we say goodbye to so many people we love dearly

What a whirlwind the last few months have been. The Lord has moved mountains, and whispered quiet assurances. • Radically Ordinary Hospitality

Convicting. Plain and simple. I am naturally an introvert, and the queen of excuses. Hand-in-hand, that has lead me to use my spiritual gift of hospitality incredibly sparingly with my neighbors, especially since Covid.  As we prepare for our move I have been reading Rosario Butterfield’s “The Gospel Comes with a House Key.” Currently my…
